Catwalk Oops and a Career in Fashion

Most fashion models get paid a lot of money to strut their stuff on the catwalk, but that's not what it's all about. When they are modeling fashion, they are showing off the items of clothes they are wearing. Amistake is known as catwalk oops by the critics. They normally wear fashion designer clothing and they will show off what best suits them.

When you are learning to become a modeling fashion show you have to start early and create a stunning walk on the catwalk. You cannot just walk like you would if you are casually walking down the street, it has to be professional and it is sometimes not all that easy to learn.

There is not a specific way everyone does the walk as everyone's bodies are shaped differently, if you do not want a catwalk oops experience here are just a few tips that you could follow to help you perfect your walk:

1. The steps you take should not be any bigger than the length of your foot.

2. Keep your body inline with your back, keep your back straight and keep your body straight, no slouching!

3. Balance out your weight on each foot when you walk, don't step heavier on one foot than the other, try keeping all your weight on the balls of your feet.

4. Try and keep your toes pointed straight in front of you or have them slightly outward.

5. Pretend there is a line that you have to stay on, walk with one foot directly
in front of the other at all times.

6. Try to keep your legs swinging forward with each step and don't move your hips from side to side too much, just slightly will do.

7. Always keep your knees bent, but not so much that it's noticeable, just so that you can jump off them for a smoother walk and it will look natural when you glide across the catwalk.

8. Your arms should move the same as your legs do, this will help you to balance and it will also look professional. When your left foot is forward, have your left arm forward, almost mimicking the movement of your leg, and the other way around.

9. Don't look stiff! This is important, your shoulders should be loose and your arms should flow freely at your sides.

As they say, practice makes perfect, so what do you have to do if you want to perfect your walk on the catwalk? Practice! Find an area that will allow you to take at least six steps freely. Then put down string or draw a straight line with chalk on the floor. Important important important, make sure the line is straight!

If you can, do this in front of a full length mirror so you can watch yourself as you might be able to point out your own mistakes. You can even dress up for the occasion and pretend there are people there watching you.

Or do the walk for your family, and ask them to show you where they think you are going wrong. By following these steps and having self confidence you shouldn't have a problem with modeling tips and the catwalk!

Model, Acting, Casting Audition Tips

Auditioning can be stressful, but it's the best way to find work in theater, film and commercials. Here are some helpful hints when heading out for an audition.

1) Arrive at least 15 minutes early. You don't want to have to rush into your audition. Give yourself time to find the space and warm up.

2) Pack your bag with a book in case there is waiting and a bottle of water. Not every place has a water fountain. Be nice to everybody. You never know if the person you are speaking to is important. There may be several people waiting with you to audition. Remember that they are competing with you for the same job. Don't let them intimidate you.

3) Wear neat, comfortable clothing. I know you want to look nice, but make sure you can move around the room. And don't wear a costume. Your outfit can suggest the character such as a high-collar blouse for a period piece, but don't get all dressed up.

4) Careful when using perfume or cologne. You don't want to send anyone out of the room in a sneezing fit.

5) Try to find some background information about who you are auditioning for. If you are auditioning for a particular company, be familiar with their work. It can also help you decide which pieces to choose for your audition. If no information for the audition is given, keep your monologue to about a minute. Most modeling agency tell in that time if they are interested. Have several pieces prepared and one longer piece in case they ask to see more.

6) Bring clean and clearly marked sheet music. If you are auditioning for a musical, be sure the music you give the piano player is cut down to 16 bars and is free of stray marks and coffee stains. Bring at least five headshots. You never know how many you will need.

7) Make sure your resume is firmly attached to your headshot. If possible, photocopy or print your resume to the back of the headshot. Don't staple it. From experience, I know that the headshots with staples get tangled in a pile. It is so much easier to access the individual sheets. And one page is plenty.

8) Don't attach your press quotes unless asked. Make sure your headshot/resume is no large than 8 1/2" by 11". This will fit into a folder. If the headshot is oversized, it may end up in the trash.

9) Set up the audition space for your needs. If there is a chair center stage, but you are going to stand for your audition, ask if you can move it out of the way. Don't try to work around it.

10) Remember to smile. If you are nervous, take a deep breath and try to relax. Recognize that you are not going to get every job you audition for, but can learn from every experience.

11) When you are called in for your audition, be confident and smile and unless it is vital, avoid asking too many questions as your audition probably has a tight time slot. Definitely do not ask if you will be called back. The casting director will let you know, that you can be sure of. If you do get called back, wear the same outfit as during your audition
