The glamorous world of young models

Modeling involves more issues than one can imagine at a superficial look. It comes with the work of photographers, talent scouts, make-up artists and hair stylists...

There are numerous aspects that are basic rules for anyone who desire to become a professional model. Therefore, in order to become one you should see how you fit the profile or what it takes to become a wanted model:

Measures: The Association of Model Agents recommends that female models should be around 34-24-34 inches (86-61-86 cms) and at least five feet eight inches (1.72m) tall. Most top models are taller. Men should be at least six feet (1.83m) tall, although many are taller and they should have at least a 38-40 inch (97-102 cm) chest, 30-32 inch (76-81 cm) waist. Elle Macpherson for example is 1.83 m tall, Claudia Schiffer is 5' 11" tall and Linda Evanghelista is 177 cm.

Age: There isn't a strict age for modeling but most models start in their teens.

Your appearance: You should have clear and healthy skin, and good teeth, hair and hands. In this industry, more than in other fields, it is all about appearance and image.

Changing your look: Not only that it is extremely necessary to be photogenic, but also you need to be able to look complex and also to have many faces (that means that you need to be able to have different looks, especially since the fashion world is always changing and searching for the NEW).

Taking the right first step: Choose a professional modeling agency to manage your portfolio an link you to potential clients. They have the knowledge to know what suits you best and what clients ask. Models usually start their career by sending their portfolio to a professional modeling agency.

Taking care of yourself: The beautiful models that you admire smiling on the covers of the magazines or on the screen of the television are used to long and tiring days of photo sessions and catwalk walking. This is why you need to be healthy in order to cope with such a glittering but also demanding lifestyle.

Which direction should you follow: See what type of model is fitting you best. Models can work as show models, photographic models or even fashion models . Try them all. It will give you plenty of experience in order to succeed in this business.

What a Modeling Agency Wants

I am not going to tell you whether or not you should or shouldn't pursue the high fashion field as a career. But, I can offer a few pointers regarding what a high-end talent or model agency will be looking for.

How Tall are You?: Start with your height. This is a crucial aspect. The high fashion industry has certain demands.

For men, they're looking for a height between 5'11 and 6'3". Typically you won't see male models shorter or taller than this. When a male model paid a visit to Elite modeling agency in Chicago, they expressed that 6'1" is ideal.

As for the girls, it's generally more like 5'8" to 6'. Ideally you are looking at 5'10" with very few exceptions.

How You Look?: You get paid to look a certain way. Obviously you should look your best before approaching a major model agency. You will find plenty, and I mean plenty, of fellow aspiring young models to compete with. Get used to it.

1) You must be a Hard Body: When some young women decide to dabble in the business of high fashion modeling, one place they misinterpret is their physique! It doesn't matter if you are male of female; you need a stellar body for high end modeling.

This young lady's body just wasn't buff enough. While she wasn't fat at all, she didn't have enough muscles and proportions either. Guys should be ripped, and girls should have well-toned bodies. A high-end model agency will demand this.

2) Measure Your Body Fat: So you girls cannot simply look in the mirror and think you are slim enough. Measure your body fat. You may appear slim, but is what you have lean muscle or fat?

Physique is a major key! If you plan to earn a living from your looks, you had better bring your best game to the table.
